Urban Company's latest results, the Ardee Industries IPO, and more...

In this week’s wrapup, we discuss how the West Asia crisis is slowing down India’s real estate industry, the government’s ₹84,000 crore Samudra Manthan National Offshore Exploration scheme, the Ardee Industries IPO, SEBI’s proposal to open REITs and InvITs to foreign investors, and Urban Company’s latest quarterly results.

With that out of the way, let’s look back at what we wrote this week.

How the West Asia crisis is rattling India's real estate sector

For a long time, real estate developer bodies like CREDAI and NAREDCO have been lobbying the government to give developers some relaxation on completing housing projects nearing their completion deadlines.

And last week, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) did exactly that. It issued an advisory granting a blanket four-month extension to any registered housing project whose completion deadline falls on or after February 28, 2026.

Why, you ask?

Well, because of the West Asia crisis. It has been throwing a spanner in the works for India's real estate sector, pushing up construction costs and slowing project execution. And if developers fail to hand over homes on time because of these delays, they could face penalties. So this temporary relaxation comes as a huge relief for the industry.

But the real question is why is a war thousands of kilometres away forcing India's real estate developers to ask for more time?

We broke it all down in Monday's story. You can read it here.

Can India's oceans power our next economic miracle?

For decades, India looked at the ocean mainly as a trade route. Ships carried goods in and out of the country, but the waters themselves remained largely untapped. Now, that mindset is beginning to change.

The government has approved an ₹84,000 crore offshore exploration programme called Samudra Manthan. While it may sound like an oil and gas initiative, the bigger ambition goes much further. It’s about building the foundations of India’s Blue Economy.

Because the ocean could offer far more than crude oil. It could support offshore wind farms, supply critical minerals needed for EVs and batteries, host undersea digital infrastructure, and create opportunities in shipbuilding, marine biotechnology, aquaculture, and coastal tourism.

Of course, none of this will be easy. Offshore projects are expensive, technologically complex, and take years to pay off. But if India can build the right infrastructure, strengthen its maritime capabilities, and coordinate its long-term strategy, the payoff could extend far beyond energy security.

So, could the next big chapter of India’s economic growth come not from its cities, but from its seas?

The Ardee Industries IPO explained

Lead may not sound exciting, but it powers far more of our lives than you think. From EVs and telecom towers to solar rooftops, demand for recycled lead is quietly booming.

Right at the heart of this trend is a company called Ardee Industries. It takes old batteries, extracts the lead, and turns it into a fast-growing business. And now, it's heading for a ₹425 crore IPO.

So we dug into its RHP to understand what makes the business tick, the risks investors should watch out for, and broke it all down in Wednesday's newsletter. Catch it here.

Can REITs & InvITs become India's next foreign investment story?

Most of us think of real estate as something you buy outright. An apartment, an office, or maybe a piece of land. But REITs and InvITs changed that by letting investors own small pieces of income-generating assets like office parks, highways, power transmission lines, and telecom towers while earning a share of the cash they generate.

Now, SEBI wants to take that idea one step further.

Instead of asking global investors to navigate India's markets, regulations, and settlement systems, it's proposing a framework that would let them buy Indian REITs and InvITs through depository receipts listed on overseas exchanges.

The timing isn't a coincidence either. India plans to spend trillions of rupees on highways, airports, renewable energy, and other infrastructure over the coming decades. And domestic capital alone may not be enough to fund that ambition. Making these trusts easier to access could help attract the kind of long-term global capital that infrastructure projects need.

But will easier access alone be enough to convince international investors, or will concerns around regulation, governance, and currency risk still hold them back?

Urban Company's best quarter post its IPO?

Urban Company just reported its latest quarterly results. And frankly, they're a bit confusing.

Revenue is soaring, orders are hitting new highs, and almost every business segment is improving. Yet the company still can't seem to turn a profit. So what's going on?

The answer lies in InstaHelp, its quick home-services business, where much of the cash burn seems to be happening. The management though believes that these losses are an investment rather than a problem.

But will that bet eventually pay off, or will it turn into an expensive gamble? Find out in our Markets edition here.
